Renaissance means ‘rebirth’, is the time period of change. It was the closing of the middle ages and the rise of the modern world, which was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman arts. The idea of the renaissance was created because people started to drift away from the idea of religion and questioned human kind’s relationship with God. There was also a development of the humanist, who believed that each individual had a significance within the society. This movement led to a huge change within the field of arts and sciences. The poetry from this time period was greatly influenced by love, arts and literature. During this time period the concept of marriage has started to evolve. People wouldn’t just marry for money, but for the love they would have for their significant other. Love in this time period had a great influence on the poetry that was written. Renaissance was a major turning point in human history as well as modern literature.

William Shakespeare is the most famous English actor, poet and play writer. There was a gap in his records until 1592 when he was recognized as an actor and play writer at the London theatre. He started his career by writing comedies and historical plays, however his tragic plays elevated him to fame. In 1593, he wrote a long poem titled Venus and Adonis. In 1594, the first of Shakespeare’s plays was published. For almost two decades Shakespeare came in many roles in theatre, wrote plays and became a business partner of the playing company, 'Lord Chamberlain's Men' which was renamed as the 'King's Men' in 1603. Shakespeare’s special relationship with King James, gave 'King's Men' the opportunity to perform seven of Shakespeare' plays at the court. Shakespeare’s main influence was the writings of many other great writers.
