By: Mahnoor Khan, Masooma Hussain, Rafia Sethi, Abrielle Noronha, Akshara George
Sir Thomas Wyatt was born into a noble family and followed his father’ steps into King Henry’s council. He was the ambassador of the King Henry VIII and served a diplomatic position where he travelled throughout Europe. He travelled and became acquainted with works of poets around Europe. Wyatt introduced the Sonnets and other forms of writing into the English Literature. His diplomatic career and the writings of Petrarch were the main influence to his literary perspective. Wyatt imitated and adapted Petrarch’s sonnets as well as his themes such as the pain of love and unfulfilled love for the beloved. Sir Wyatt is credited for creating a “Distinctive English Voice” into the renaissance period.
